Major-General Lancelot Dennys & Great Britain in China, 1941

In Girl in the Glass, when Chinese guerrilla fighters capture Declan, he is interrogated by a British soldier. What Declan doesn’t know is that earlier in 1941, Britain and China became official allies against Japan and its expansionist plans in Asia. Thankfully, Major-General Lancelot Dennys honors Declan’s last wish, sending USNRL Director Harold Bowen a message, saving the professor’s life.

Major-General Lancelot Ernest Dennys, known as "Lance", served as the head of the British military mission and military attaché to the British Embassy in Chunking, China. His responsibilities included advising the Chinese government and Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek in their conflict with Japan. Dennys served as the head of the British Military Mission to China from 1941 to March 14, 1942, when he was killed in a plane crash.

Despite his short tenure, Major-General Dennys led Britain’s effort to provide military assistance to China, training and assisting the Chinese Nationalist Army, as well as Chinese guerrillas in their fight against Japanese occupation.
