Merkin - the pubic toupee

In Girl in the Glass, Declan escapes the FBI by hiding out in the seedy underbelly of Washington, D.C. There he learns about merkins, which is a pubic wig or hairpiece, typically made of human or synthetic hair, worn over the pubic area.

Historically, they were worn by prostitutes after shaving their pubic hair to eliminate lice or hide signs of sexually transmitted infections. Today, merkins are also used in film and theater for historical accuracy or as a costume element. They can also be worn as a fashion accessory.
