Neils Bohr and the Atomic Model

Neils Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist who won the Nobel Prize in 1922 for his atomic model. The Bohr model of the atom described the atomic structure like a solar system, with electrons circling around the nucleus like planets around the Sun. In Girl in the Glass, when Declan spots the puddles on the ground at first he thinks they are solar systems, until he recognizes the similarity to Bohr’s model.

Although Bohr’s model has been supplanted by more sophisticated models, its underlying principles remain valid.
